366th Fighter Wing welcomes new commander

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --  Hundreds of Gunfighters gathered to welcome the new 366th Fighter Wing commander, during the change-of-command ceremony here, Feb. 18.

Col. Dave Iverson assumed command from Col. Christopher Short inside Hangar 211, while Lt. Gen. Tod Wolters, 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) commander, officiated the ceremony.

Short, was selected for promotion to brigadier general and will continue on to become the 57th Wing commander at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

"It's an honor to be by your side ... to take the time to pay the appropriate respect to the Shorts as they depart and to welcome in the Iversons," said Wolters. "Here's wishing you the calmest of seas and the bluest of skies."

Upon assuming command of the 366th FW, Iverson will be responsible for a wing that is comprised of 4,200 military and civilian members. Supporting 20 squadrons, including a Republic of Singapore squadron, he'll lead a diverse operational fighter wing equipped with F-15E and F-15SG Strike Eagles.

"This truly is like coming home," said Iverson, who spent childhood summers in Idaho."I look forward to getting to know you, to becoming friends and to working with you to further our nation's defense and supporting our local community."

Before assuming command, Iverson was the director of operations for Headquarters U.S. Forces Japan at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Iverson has more than 4,400 hours of total flying time in the F-15E, with more than 750 of those hours in combat. His military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor, three Bronze Stars and the Air Force Combat Action Medal.
