The base Youth Center is hosting a wide array of events centered around providing fun opportunities for children.

As the holiday season quickly approaches, Gunfighter children have opportunities to enjoy Youth Center events and the company of friends.

"The children did the pumpkin-carving Oct. 22 and we'll have our annual Boo Bash happening Oct. 24," said Erin Arel, Youth Center fitness and sports director. "We will do the Pumpkin Toss Oct. 29."

Giving the children a place to enjoy activities is only one part of the reason the Youth Center hosts these events.

Arel explained that it gives children a safe place to safely do many Halloween activities and parents can even join in the fun.

"When we did the pumpkin carving, we had parents come by to carve pumpkins with their kids in case they might not have time to do that at home," said Arel. "It gives them extra time to celebrate with their families."

The Youth Center exclusively creates activities for children and their families.

"We offer programs that are not offered in the local area," said Chartelle Eichman, Youth Center director. "We also try to provide continued programming during deployments and offer special programs during the year to promote family time."

The programs at the Youth Center provide creative outlets for base children since deployments can be difficult for families. Youth Center activities can be an avenue to help alleviate stress.

Henry Ross, Youth Center adolescent and teen coordinator, explained members don't have to worry about children staying at home unattended or trying to find other activities for them to do outside the local area.

Arel agreed saying, "For children with deployed parents, it gives them time to interact with others their own age. It helps the parent who is still home with the child. My favorite part is getting to see them interact with each other. When we do events like this, you tend to see the cliques fall away and they meet new friends and make new connections, which is always nice."
