Children will soon have a new place to play called the Gunfighter Kid's Gym located in the Gunfighter Service Center at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

Funded by the Healthy Base Initiative, this new gym is more than a play area. It provides a safe place for children to be active and have fun indoors. This children's gym will be a perfect place to bring children to play when weather is bad. Free Wi-Fi and seating areas will also be available for parents to enjoy while children play.

The large structure will consist of more than four levels of playing area. There are five slides and more than 20 different amenities within the design.

With flexible hours seven-days a week, the gym will give parents and children an opportunity to enjoy a climate-controlled play area without a long commute.

Additionally, from Dec. 29, 2014, through Jan. 3, 2015, (excluding the January 1st holiday), there will be a "Free" view test drive of the Gunfighter Kid's Gym equipment. Each of the days listed, we will open the doors free of charge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so that the Gunfighter community children can take it for a spin.

This will allow the users and operators to gain a perspective on upkeep, cleaning, traffic flow, and playability.

"There will be nothing else like it within a 60-mile radius," said Tommy Brooks, 366th Force Support Squadron community services flight chief. "Working with various agencies, FSS will provide safety for the children who'll be playing."

The Air Force dictates safety standards for all play equipment used in Air Force facilities, which is also compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In addition to the Kid's Gym, FSS will provide a snack bar serving healthy grab-and-go sandwiches, snacks and drinks. This snack bar is inside the Gunfighter Kid's Gym but is open to the entire community. There will be a separate party room for families to host events for reasonable prices along with catering.

Brooks explained there will be a $2.50 fee for the entire day while punch cards will be available for 10 visits at 20 dollars.  However, Dec. 29, 2014 through Jan. 3, 2015 (excluding Jan. 1st), FSS will hold a free test of the Gunfighter Kid's Gym. Doors will open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give children and parents the chance to experience new equipment.

"The cost to use the Gunfighter Kid's Gym will be significantly less than similar indoor play areas in Boise," said Lt. Col. Diltrice Thomas, 366th FSS commander. "Plus, base residents won't have to drive almost an hour to get to it!"
