The 12th Air Force and Air Forces Southern Commander, Lt. Gen. Chris Nowland, visited Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, April 1, to tour the base and meet the service members dedicated to completing the base mission.

Nowland visited squadrons around base to discuss mission priorities with subject matter experts and recognize superior performers.

"The Air Force values everybody. Whether male, female, black, white--it doesn't matter--performance is all that matters," Nowland said. "You guys embody that."

He spoke during an all call at the base fitness center where he addressed key topics from around the Air Force with more than 800 Airmen.

Nowland discussed the importance of practicing good wingmanship and described how it could help solve two of the Air Force's biggest concerns: sexual assault and suicide.

Sexual assault has no place in the Air Force, Nowland said. "How do we solve it? You solve it."

It's not only women who are assaulted either, men are just as vulnerable.

He explained an Airman's duty is to keep their wingmen safe with something as simple as asking the question, "Are you okay?"

"Everyone in this organization is important and everyone is busy," he said, "but when you ask that question, you then need to stop and talk about what's going on."

Nowland concluded his visit with a message to the Gunfighter community: "Innovation comes from the bottom, not from the top-- you have to be the ones seeing where we can change."

"You're part of a world-class organization and you are important," he said. "Your brain is your strongest attribute and you're a problem-solver: Tell us what we can change."
