Warrior of the week -- 366th MSG

  • Published
Senior leaders with the 366th Mission Support Group recently selected the following individual as one of its warriors of the week.

Senior Airman Maria Skanska R. Maramba

Unit and occupation: 366th Mission Support Group information manager

Time in the Air Force: Three years

Time at Mountain Home Air Force Base: About three years

Hometown: Buena Park, Calif.

What service do you provide to Gunfighters? "I review packages for the whole mission support group and provide computer assistance to the staff."

Hobbies: Reading novels by John Grisham, snowboarding, gardening and surfing the Internet

Most memorable Air Force moment: "Other than the time I met my husband (who at the time was still in the military), I would say that it would be when I deployed to Kyrgyzstan last year. I was part of the 366th Civil Engineering Squadron and had the opportunity to learn what everyone in the squadron did, from helping out the 'Dirt Boyz' to learning how to build stuff. While deployed, I also had the opportunity to help the less fortunate from that country. We went to an orphanage and helped remodel their old playground and built new equipment for it."

Interesting personal fact: "I was born in the Philippines on the island of Luzon. Up until the age of seven, I was able speak four different languages but have since forgotten some of them and now speak a dialect. I came to the United States when I was 17 and joined the military a year after. Before that, everyone that knew me thought that I would not make it through basic training since I have always been the 'modeling' type. I proved them wrong, though. I guess beauty and brains can have strength as well. I believe it was more the will power that got me through all of it."

Why does Senior Airman Maria Skanska R. Maramba  deserve to be a warrior of the week? "Mae has done a fantastic job of reviewing the group's active duty and Reserve officer performance reports, enlisted performance reports and decorations. We give her tremendous responsibility as a young senior airman, and she delivers every time. She always deals with customers in a courteous, professional manner and handles numerous tasks and responsibilities simultaneously to keep the office running smoothly."
-- Lt. Col. Andrew Sackett, 366th Mission Support Group deputy commander
