Remember salute reports as exercise nears

  • Published
As the operational readiness inspection in March 2008 nears, Gunfighters need to prepare to handle each scenario presented to them.

Salute reports are a quick and effective way to communicate ground enemy attack information up the chain of command.

Six items of information are passed on when using a salute report:

Size -- number of people or vehicles seen or the size of an object

Activity -- description of what the enemy is doing such as attacking, fleeing or observing

Location -- where the enemy was sighted using a grid coordinate or reference point

Unit -- distinctive signs, symbols, vehicles, aircraft or weapons

Time -- what activity was observed

Equipment -- what the enemy was using

These reports should be passed on using the most expedient means necessary to get the information up the chain of command. Airmen have the opportunity to practice reports during operational readiness exercises used to prepare Gunfighters for the ORI next spring.

More information regarding salute reports can be found in the Airman's Manual.
