More than 85 people from the base community joined together during the Mountain Home Air Force Base Top 3 Run-A-Thon at the base fitness center May 2 to raise funds for numerous charities.

Active duty, retired, civil service and dependents raised money with the Top 3 for the Air Force Village; Air Force Heritage Hall; Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Scholarship Fund; 12th Air Force, Air Combat Command and 366th Fighter Wing Awards; as well as other enlisted programs in the local area.

"With all these different areas to support, many would think only a small amount would go to each benefit, but through the Gunfighters' support, the run-a-thon raised a $9,000, which makes it one of Mountain Home AFB's most successful fundraisers ever," said Master Sgt. Chris Fowler, Top 3 president.

With so much support, the event was split into a morning and afternoon run. More than 2,800 laps were completed equaling more than 700 miles, not including miles ran on road courses.

Tech. Sgt. Neil Young, 366th Operations Support Squadron, raised more than $1,000 and was awarded a Garmin 301 Global Positioning System and heart monitor for the Top 3. Master Sgt. Robert Woodin, 366th Civil Engineer Squadron, raised $900; Senior Master Sgt. Christine Pinkney, raised $400; and Tech. Sgt. Terry Kling, raised $400, and even though only one prize was advertised, the Top 3 gave them GPS systems as well.

Because of the support of the volunteers and Gunfighter community, Chief Master Sgt. Allen Niksich, 366th Fighter Wing command chief, was able to take $3,800 and present it during the World-Wide Senior Enlisted Summit.

"The Top 3 thanks everyone for their support and looks forward to surpassing this year's donations and distance next year," said Senior Master Sgt. Mike Maynard, Top 3 vice president.
