The base primary school sprang to boisterous life Aug. 25 as Gunfighter children, parents and teachers lined up at the doors to begin the 2008 - 2009 school year.

The emotions on the faces of the children were mixed as they awaited the opportunity to continue their education. Many looked anxious, nervous and apprehensive, but some were actually excited about the experience, according to their parents.

"My son, Samuel, is happy to get back to school so he can see some of his friends he has missed over the summer," said Staff Sgt. Katie Klefforth, 366th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "Children always get bored during the summertime, so getting back to school is a good change in the routine."

Sergeant Klefforth was not the only parent who had positive aspirations for the new year.

"I'm eager for my son to start school and begin learning new things," said Amy Fossette, mother of first-grader Jeremy Fossette.

While the children were starting their first day at the base primary, a new principal was also looking forward to the upcoming school year.

"First and foremost, we're here to take care of the children," said Ernest Elliot, Base Primary School principal. "We're here to meet their needs and hope to meet the parent's expectations."
