MHAFB receives DBIDS

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --  Starting Aug. 1, base security personnel will begin scanning the identification cards of personnel entering base through the gate using the Defense Biometric Identification System.

DBIDS will allow security personnel to see not only the information printed on the ID card but also real-time biometric information such as the individual's photo and finger prints.

"This new technology will help to ensure the safety of our installation," said Capt. Keith Quick, 366th Security Forces Squadron commander. "DBIDS will help the gate guards better determine who does and does not have access to the base as well as identify fake IDs and visitor passes."

All personnel will be required to register their identification cards. The registration process will begin in mid-April and will continue until all personnel and their dependents are registered.

"We will have multiple mobile registration stations around the base," said Richard Fox, 366th SFS physical security officer. "We are trying to make it an easy registration process for all personnel so they will not have to travel very far. The dependents, however, will have to register at the Visitor Control Center."

As with most other changes the process to switch over to DBIDS will require time and patience from all base personnel.

"It will take a while to get everyone registered into the DBIDS database," said Capt. Quick. "Initially, it may increase the amount of time it takes to get on base while everyone is learning how to use the system. Patience is greatly appreciated."
