With the New Year here, Gunfighters have more reason than usual to evaluate their current exercise habits, and the fitness center is ready to assist Airmen and their families in the pursuit of healthier lifestyles.

The fitness center will be providing multiple, easily accessible programs emphasizing physical fitness and promoting positive morale.

Some of the upcoming programs will include a Gunfighter weight loss program in April, a triathlon, tentatively slated for June, a half-marathon in September and a family extravaganza day in August.

"We encourage people to change their lifestyles and become fit for summer," said Staff Sgt. James Davidson, 366th Force Support Squadron fitness supervisor.

The purpose of these programs is to encourage people to begin creating healthy habits in an enjoyable atmosphere.

"We're trying to get people to get out of their homes and stay active," said Tech. Sgt. Marcus Darnell, 366th FSS noncommissioned officer in charge of the Gunfighter Fitness Center.

Fitness center personnel have geared many of the programs for entire family involvement.

"We're aiming for more family events throughout the year because when parents can set positive exercise examples the children usually follow their lead," said Darnell.
Sgt. Davidson agrees families are an integral component to the fitness programs.

"We encourage whole families to come out and participate," explained Davidson.
As well as being family friendly, all programs are also intended to be as entertaining as possible.

"Being in such a remote area, entertainment is an important factor to draw people out and help them spend their time in a positive manner," said Davidson.

Adhering to the wing commander's priority of developing and deploying combat ready airmen, the fitness center's programs provide a way for military personnel to ensure they are physically fit to fight.

"Your physical wellbeing is especially important in the military because the more fit you are, the less likely you are to encounter health issues, making you deployment ready," said Davidson.
