Many active duty Gunfighters are unaware they have the opportunity to join the Air Force Reserve via a reserve recruiter here.

Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Walker, United States Air Force Reserve Recruiter, has been recruiting here for the past year.

"My job is to be a resource for base personnel who have questions about their options when they choose to leave active duty," he said. "In the Reserves you're doing one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer, versus 24/7 active-duty Air Force, but with the Reserves, your primary focus is going to school or your civilian profession."

Helping with the transition into a civilian lifestyle is a large part of how recruiters like Walker assist MHAFB Airmen.

"The time you have to commit to the Reserves all depends on where you're at in your career," said Walker. "There are a couple options for members who choose the Reserves: Palace Chase and Palace Front. Palace Chase allows first-term Airmen who have served at least half their commitment to apply to join the Reserves. Palace Front assists with the transition from active duty to the Reserves, after fulfilling the signed commitment."

Walker is currently assisting one Airman with her transition into the Reserves.

"I chose to utilize Palace Chase in order to relocate to Georgia where my husband is stationed and attend college full-time," said Senior Airman Andrea Carnelli, 366th Medical Group aerospace medical technician. "My ultimate goal is to be a commissioned officer by using this 'fast track' program to earn my degree as a registered nurse."

In many cases, Airmen are unaware how simple the transition process is.

"It has been a relatively painless process," said Carnelli. "I had a little bit of anxiety while waiting for answers, but I saw this as the best route to accomplish my goals."

Walker wants members interested in the Reserves to know he is available and happy to help with any questions.

"If you're trying to apply to with the Reserves, start with me," said Walker. "I want to be able to save recruits time and make sure they're qualified. I screen each person with a face-to-face interview so we make sure this is the right decision for them."
