The 428th Fighter Squadron participated in Red Flag Alaska, June 5-23, 2018, at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

Participating in Red Flag Alaska gave the 428th FS an opportunity to partake in a large-force exercise with air defense and counter-air operations scenarios.

“We are happy to be able to train with our United States and Japanese counterparts in this exercise,” said LTC Stanley Selva, Republic of Singapore Air Force combined detachment command and exercise director. “Red Flag Alaska provides a realistic training environment for us, which enhances our operational competencies.”

The 428th Fighter Squadron trained in several scenarios which included air threats, ground threats and electronic warfare.

Lt. Col. Donald Sandberg, 428th Fighter Squadron commander, explained that the 428th FS values the Red Flag experience because it’s a type of practice that is not done at home station.

“One thing that’s valuable about this particular Red Flag Alaska experience is that we have the opportunity to integrate and employ with the 425th Fighter Squadron [our F-16 counterpart] down at Luke Air Force Base,” Sandberg said. "This allows us to work alongside with the Republic of Singapore Air Force, integrate them against a common enemy, and then employ and demonstrate the lethality of the Air Force."
