Children ages 6-18 donated non-perishable food items from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15, 2017 at the Mountain Home Air Force Base Youth Center, here, to raise food for their community.

The idea began when one of the pre-teens identified individuals didn’t have enough food for the holidays. After staff members explained not every family in the world has the same benefits as others, the children began planning what they wanted to do to address the issue.

“They really thought of it by themselves and wanted to do something that would help families around the base,” said Beth Mosier, 366th Force Support Squadron child and youth assistant. “We implemented what they wanted to change and made their wishes come true.”

The children collectively put together over 250 food items to give to the first sergeants council. The items ranged from soups and canned fruits to vegetables and ramen.

All items will go towards the first sergeants food pantry that will assist families in need during the holiday season around the base.

“This is a great opportunity to show the children the values of compassion and empathy during the holiday season and at the same time do a service commitment that will benefit our base,” said Mosier.
