Twenty police officers from around the state attended a joint training exercise with the 366th Security Forces Squadron April 20 at the off-base shooting range here.

The exercise helped improve marksmanship skills and general knowledge of sniper equipment capabilities.

Deputy Raul Garcia, Ada County Police Department explained that the airmen facilitating the training were extremely helpful and welcoming. "By building these relationships, we are able to learn from each other," Garcia said.

This is the first time Mountain Home AFB members have trained with local law enforcement in a setting like this.

“This was a great turnout for law enforcement officials from all around the state,” said John Lamm, region three training coordinator from Jerome, Idaho.

The training provided officers a chance to practice on a large range side-by-side with security forces members.

“They get a unique opportunity to shoot at a longer range with shots ranging from 100-900 yards in length,” said Tech. Sgt. Robert Wilson, 366th Security Forces Squadron flight chief.

The training helps prepare officers for any situation involving a long shot.

“This training benefits the community by giving them highly trained and organized officers to solve problems in their communities,” said Lamm.

Officers who attended expressed sincere appreciation and hope to attend future events. Security forces received interest about this type of joint training from Oregon, Utah and Washington police agencies.

“I would like to see events like this continue in the future,” said Garcia. “It will help not only my agency, but others like it.”
