MHAFB: Best at blood drive Published Aug. 23, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Brittany A. Chase 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Base officials welcomed Julia Wulf, regional chief executive officer of the American Red Cross biomedical services, to observe the regular occurring blood drive, Aug 22. Due to the impressive donations from MHAFB, Wulf wanted to show her gratitude to members of the base. "Mountain Home Air Force Base is a huge supporter of the American Red Cross," said Wulf. "We hold six blood drives a year on base and average 100 units per blood drive, I wanted to say thank you and express my appreciation to all the Airmen who donate." Every unit of blood donated equates to one pint, which only takes roughly 10-12 minutes to collect, and an hour and 15 minutes from when you arrive to when you leave. "Airmen take time out of their busy schedules to help support the Red Cross." said Wulf. "That impresses me because it shows there is a lot of passion on base to donate blood." Nearly 100 Gunfighters showed their support by donating this past dirve, making a total base donation of 96 pints of blood, with the potential of saving up to 288 lives. "Our base has a great reputation as being a good donor base," said James Koseki, 366th Medical Group blood bank supervisor. "Our donations help, not only patients in Idaho, but also our base. Every unit we donate, we receive one credit from the Red Cross, saving us money and potentially saving Gunfighters lives." The blood drive is not only a volunteer opportunity, but will lead Gunfighters to help the community and surrounding region. "It's a very pleasant atmosphere for our staff, and we really love the fact Gunfighters come out to donate blood." Said Wulf. "We look forward to the continued support from the base." The next blood drive held by the American Red Cross will be Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
