Tax Center opens Feb 18 Published Jan. 17, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Brittany A. Chase 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The base tax center is slated to open Feb. 18 in Building 512. More than 25 men and women across the wing have come forward to volunteer at the tax center, helping all Department of Defense identification card holders who'd like free assistance filing their 2013 tax return. "I've been volunteering with the tax center for more than 10 years," said Fred Horn, retiree and volunteer tax center assistant. "I'm glad to see such a great program continue to help our Airmen and their families." Last year the base tax center saved more than 220,000 dollars in tax preparation fees for Gunfighters. "The tax center will alleviate any financial worries Airmen and their spouses may be concerned with during this tax season, making it easy for Airmen to stay focused on the mission at all times." said Tech Sgt. Robert Mathews, 366th Fighter Wing judge advocate and tax center NCO in charge. Customers coming to the tax center must bring the most recent W-2, DoD ID card, Social Security card and any other paperwork that will be useful in tax preperation. "For the past several years we have been doing a lot of business," said Mathews. "Last year alone we helped more than 1,000 people receive 2.8 million dollars in tax refunds combined. We hope this will be the greatest tax season yet for the Gunfighter family." Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Appointments are recommended for married individuals who own property and can be made between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
