Members from the 428th Fighter Squadron and 366th Fighter Wing celebrated the Chinese New Year at the Gunfighter Service Center Jan. 24.

"The Base and community have always been very supportive of these events and we greatly appreciate that support," said Lt. Col. William Marshall, 428th Fighter Squadron commander.

Fireworks kicked-off the night's events followed by a dragon's dance and a slideshow presentation featuring the history of the Chinese New Year. During the festivities, two constant themes were dragons and the color red. According to History.com, the dragon represents prosperity, good luck and good fortune. The color red symbolizes good luck and fortune as well as happiness and abundance.

"Chinese New Year is a very important holiday to the people of Singapore, particularly those of Chinese descent," said Marshall. "The Republic of Singapore Air Force personnel enjoy sharing that unique cultural event and heritage with their United States Air Force teammates and local community. I think everyone who attended greatly enjoyed the event."
