2014 AFAF begins this week Published March 5, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Brittany A. Chase and Senior Airman Benjamin Sutton 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The 2014 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign officially kicked-off March 3. Gunfighters will spend the next six weeks reaching deep into their pockets contributing to theĀ Air Force Assistance Fund campaign. It was established to provide an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses) in need. "The annual Air Force Assistance Fund gives us another opportunity to help our fellow Airmen when they need it most," said Col. Byron Anderson, 366th Fighter Wing vice commander. "The AFAF campaign supports four charities dedicated to caring for Airmen from induction through retirement and beyond." The four charities donations include the Air Force Aid Society, General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Village, and the Air Force Enlisted Village. "Our base goal this year is $62,190," said Capt. Benjamin Hoffman, 391st Fighter Squadron director of training. "We plan to accomplish this goal by establishing 100 percent contact with all active-duty members of our base and by encouraging participation, regardless how much or how little." Many fundraisers will be held across the base during the next six weeks contributing to the campaign. "Each group is planning a fundraising event to supplement the donations of individuals," said Hoffman. "These events will likely include golf tournaments, bowl-a-thons, or penny wars. We encourage maximum support and participation at these events to help us achieve our goals." As an extra incentive for all the funds and help Gunfighters donate, the Air Force Aid Society will donate 2,500.00 dollars if we exceed, 50 percent of our base goal. "Last year, four units all had 100% participation," said Hoffman. "When every Airman in a unit chooses to donate, it's a great example of taking care of our own, and a true testament to the giving nature of our base."
