Are you ready for PCS season Published March 21, 2014 By Personal Property Office 366th Logistics Readiness Squadron MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Starting May 1, a 2000 pound limit of professional gear, books, papers and equipment will be implemented for military moves. This change is important because permanent change of station season has begun and continues through the end of October. "For the most part I don't think this change will affect most people," said Judy Brengman, 366th Logistics Readiness Squadron quality insurance inspector. "For the ones it does affect we will advise accordingly so they can make informed decisions." Prepare early for a successful PCS move, and it will pay dividends in the future. Detailed planning is critical to successful moves during PCS season, pack and pick up dates are more difficult to obtain. By preparing early you can mitigate headaches, delays and report no later than date changes. Members are encouraged to share the information with their spouses and releasing agents. In addition, they are responsible to ensure their residences and storage units are clean and ready for movers. The movers can refuse to pack and pick up items if the household goods or homes are not clean and organized. Military members moving under PCS, separation and retirement orders are authorized to claim pro gear. The weight of the pro gear does not count against the net weight of the shipments. Spouses are authorized 500 pounds of pro gear, but some restrictions may apply. If you are making a state side PCS, separation, or retirement move, a do- it- yourself move is an option. Members will be paid an incentive payment based on the net weight of what's moved by the individual. This is a viable option that saves the government money from contracted moves. "I know how stressful moving can be for the military member and their family," said Senior Airman Kaley Saunders, 366th LRS property counselor. "If I can ensure a member receives household goods on time, I've done my job. I want each customer to have a successful move because we care."
