Kick Gas! Published July 23, 2014 By Senior Airman Caitlin Guinazu 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Save money, save time, save gas. Balfour Beatty Communities is now leasing privatized houses to unaccompanied, eligible personnel. "By opening up the privatized housing to other eligible tenants, we are able to recycle the funds back into the community," said Amanda Snoey-Holladay, Balfour Beatty Communities community manager. "It will also be beneficial to the members themselves- you won't have to spend the extra time on driving to and from base or sitting at the gate, not to mention the money being saved on gasoline." While amenities are included, roommates are optional and there are no application fees or deposits. "Security deposits, advanced rent and pet deposits are fees that are usually included when renting a house," said Elfie Stoehr, Government Housing housing manager. "They are not required when choosing to live on base." Other benefits include being centrally located to the commissary, Base exchange, fitness center and the hospital. The new housing option provides an abundance of resources previously not available to unaccompanied Gunfighters. "The rent is all inclusive, it includes the electric, gas, water, and sewer," said Snoey-Holladay. "As an incentive for signing up not only do you get a fabulous house, but you also get to enjoy the benefits of a gardener, 24-hour maintenance, washer and dryer hook-ups and last but not least, free residential activities hosted by LifeWorks. For the price, it's a big bang for your buck." Although it's been almost a year since base housing was privatized, changes and upgrades are still being made. "Some improvements include the additional 50 units we are in the process of building," said Snoey-Holladay. "We are also going to be adding more tot-parks, softball and soccer fields, as well as basketball courts with lighting, a volleyball sand court and more walking paths." The program has been operational since April, and services will continue to be available until privatized housing has reached a 95 percent occupation rate. "You're building a community here, you're tying people together. It's a win-win situation for everyone." said Stoehr.
