The community of Mountain Home, Idaho has invited Airmen to take part in the 54th Annual Air Force Appreciation Day held, Sept. 6.

AFAD is the community's largest celebration, honoring not only the men and women stationed at MHAFB but all members of the U.S. armed forces.

Friday kicks off at 6 p.m. with a corn-shucking event. Airmen join local community members to shuck as fast as they can in order to prepare approximately 5,000 ears of corn for a free barbeque the following day.

The evening's events conclude with a community social and the 21st anniversary AFAD fun run/walk which will start approximately at 6:30 p.m. at Carl Miller Park Mountain Home, Idaho.

Saturday begins with one of Idaho's largest parades starting at 10:30 a.m. at Paul's Market. It makes its way through the downtown area, eventually following American Legion Blvd. to Carl Miller Park.

The parade has more than 60 entries with an expected attendance of more than 7,000 people lining the streets.

Immediately following the parade will be free barbeque, featuring pulled beef sandwiches, corn and more.

During the BBQ make sure to check out "Mobility," the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West pop/rock/country combo band who will perform throughout the afternoon.
