MHAFB gets on track with fitness Published Oct. 24, 2014 By Airman Connor J. Marth Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- A track renovation plan at the 366th Fighter Wing Fitness Center began Oct. 17, 2014, with a scheduled completion date of December 1. The track is undergoing a complete remodeling aimed to reduce it's impact on runner's joints. "The new track is made of the same material used by Boise State University," said Jason Sutton, track installation foreman with Beynon Sports Surfacing Company. "It will be a lot more forgiving on runners' knees and ankles than the old track." With the track unusable due to construction, arrangements have been made for alternate Fitness Assessment locations. "We currently have two running areas," said Tech. Sgt. Steven Robinson, 366th Force Support Squadron fitness center operations NCO in charge. "We have set up an outside course at Holt Park and, as always, our indoor track is available." With temperatures dropping, many runners are starting to prefer indoor running. "Most people will start wanting to take their PT tests inside," said Senior Airman Sian Reantaso, 366th FSS fitness assessment cell augmentee. "It's definitely the perfect time for them to resurface it." The track isn't the only thing getting a facelift in the coming months. The Fitness Center team has several renovation plans in the works. "We'll be creating multi-function rooms where the old cardio theatre and racquet ball courts one and two are located," said Staff Sgt. Rose Crawford, 366th FSS operations NCO. "These multi-function rooms will house what's currently in the back of the weight room to free up space for more equipment." With renovations and support to its fitness facilities, MHAFB continues to express its focus on Airmen readiness. "At Mountain Home Air Force Base we have a great fitness program offering many different classes," said Senior Airman Ryan Berry, 366th FSS fitness specialist. "The renovations can help us further develop our classes and keep our Airmen fit."
