The Biomedical Sciences Corps is celebrating its 50th birthday.  In order to recognize the unique contributions of the members of the BSC, the Air Force has designated January 26-30 as BSC Appreciation Week.

The mission of the BSC is to leverage the full spectrum of capability to propel our population to be the healthiest and highest performing segment of the U.S. by 2025. The BSC dates back to 1917 when the U.S. Army Sanitary Corps was established to combat infectious diseases and the Army Medical Administrative Corps followed three years later.  The Air Force Medical Service was officially established in 1949 and the BSC was born in 1965.

The BSC is comprised of 18 distinct career fields, making it the most diverse corps in the AFMS. Ten of the clinical and scientific BSC career fields are represented here at MHAFB:  Aerospace Physiology, Biomedical Laboratory, Bioenvironmental Engineering, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Public Health.

If you see a BSC Officer this week, feel free to say thanks for all that they do to support our mission at Mountain Home.
