Each year, the United States experiences spikes in flu cases during certain times of the year, typically winter months. The 366th Medical Group continuously monitors flu and gastrointestinal illness activity and is ready to help during high activity of these well-known illnesses.

When it comes to combating viruses, keeping up-to-date with immunizations, frequently washing hands, and isolating yourself or others when feeling ill are some of the best stay healthy.

Fighting back doesn't always work, however. If you find yourself feeling sick, there are some signs to look for to help diagnose the issue. Those with the flu may often experience fever or chills, coughing, sore throat, muscle or body aches, headaches, and nasal congestion.

If you are experiencing these symptoms, stay home from school or work, drink plenty of fluids, and ensure you get enough rest. If symptoms persist or worsen, contact your primary care manager or report to the Urgency Care Center.

For patients with weaker immune systems or chronic medical conditions, it's recommended you seek early intervention from your PCM.

When symptoms subside, proper precautions should be taken to prevent others getting sick. Make sure to clean bedding, toothbrushes, and any garments or surfaces you may have come in contact with.

Rest assured, your 366th MDG continues to monitor for flu outbreaks and remains ready to provide high quality health care.
