Public Health Food Safety Notice: Sabra Classis Hummus Recall

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --  Sabra Dipping Company is recalling 30,000 cases of its Classic Hummus. During their routine testing, the company found that some of their product was contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea; Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths amongst pregnant women.

The Mountain Home AFB Public Health office is working with base establishments and has confirmed that our installation's Commissary carries Classic Hummus, 10 ounce packages. To date, there have been no reports indicating that these products have caused any illness.

The Unit Product Code (UPC) is the number that appears under the bar code of products. The UPC for Classic Hummus, 10 ounce package is 040822011143.  Other products affected by this recall are:

· Sabra Classic Hummus without Garnish 32 ounce pkg; UPC 040822342049
· Sabra Classic Hummus 17oz Six Pack; UPC 040822017497
· Hummus Dual Pack Classic/Garlic 23.5ounce pkg; UPC 040822342209

Customers who purchased one of the listed products should not consume them. Products purchased at the Commissary can be returned for a full refund.
