Road Closures and emergency response to mid-air collision

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho – Emergency responders from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Elmore County and the city of Mountain Home have secured the scene that resulted from a mid-air collision between two U.S. Navy EA18-G during their performance at the base’s Gunfighter Skies Air Show on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

After the collision, the aircraft crashed on Grand View Highway. Elmore County established a road closure due to the air show plane crash. For the next several days, Highway 167 will be shut down during the investigation phase of the incident. State Highway 167 will be closed from Simco Road and Highway 167 junction to Airbase Road and Highway 167 junction.

All four of the air crew successfully ejected.

“First and foremost, we are incredibly thankful that everyone involved in today’s incident is safe,” said Col. David Gunter, 366th Fighter Wing commander. “The extraordinary professionalism of our emergency response teams, including the city and county, allowed for quick response to the aircrew as well as securing the scene to ensure the safety of our guests, performers and community. And to all of our guests here today, I can’t tell you how much we appreciated your patience, trust and support.”
