The 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, was named as the Air Force recipient of the Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence.

The Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence acknowledges outstanding and innovative efforts by military installations worldwide. It is a highly competitive award presented annually to a single installation from each branch of the military. The Gunfighters won the award for their incredible innovation and commitment to taking care of their people, ultimately supporting the mission of the Department of Defense.

Mountain Home Air Force Base implemented a number of initiatives in the spirit of innovation. The base operates a self-sustaining recycling center that compacts the recycled material to be sold to a vendor, generating $120,000 annually for the installation. Additionally, the Gunfighter Innovation Cell developed solar portable power cells, providing deployable and self-sufficient electricity sources for austere environments and field training exercises. The base also enhanced living conditions for its airmen by re-shaping dormitories and fostering opportunities for airmen to engage with the local community.

"I’m very proud of the 366th Fighter Wing for this amazing accomplishment. Winning the CINC Installation Excellence Award is a testament to the innovative spirit and unparalleled professionalism of all Gunfighters. I am thankful for the community support we receive that helps sustain our Wing’s incredible culture," said Col. Michael Alfaro, Wing Commander, 366th Fighter Wing.
