Warrior of the week -- 366th MDOS

  • Published
Senior leaders with the 366th Medical Operations Squadron recently selected the following individual as one of its warriors of the week.

Capt. Debra Storms

Unit and occupation: 366th Medical Operations Squadron acting surgical suite nurse executive

Time in the Air Force: 10 years

Time at Mountain Home Air Force Base: 2 1/2 years

Hometown: Newark, Ohio

What service do you provide to Gunfighters? "I'm soon to be the sole surgical nurse supporting six (soon to be seven) surgeons in about 60 procedures monthly. I provide comprehensive pre-op, intra-op and post-op care to active duty, dependent and retiree patient populations."

Hobbies: Gardening, camping, hiking, drawing and spending time with her husband and son

Most memorable Air Force moment: "Forward deploying with an Army special operations unit in Irbil, Iraq, in May 2003. I learned to live without even the usual deployed luxuries of electric, heating and cooling, dining hall and shower facilities."

Interesting personal fact: "My master's in public health is nearly complete, and I will graduate in December 2007."

Why does Capt. Debra Storms deserve to be a warrior of the week? "Captain Storms has stepped up to lieutenant colonel-level work as the acting surgical suite nurse executive due to a deployment and a sudden medical retirement of a co-worker. Her calm, confident leadership during this difficult time has earned her the admiration of all the staff of the surgical services flight as well as other members of 366th MDOS and patients. She's doing the work of three nurses, and finishing up her master's degree as well."
--Lt. Col. Charles M. McDannald, 366th Medical Operations Squadron flight commander
