Warrior of the week -- DeCa

  • Published
Senior managers with the base commissary here recently selected the following individual as one of its warriors of the week.

Walter Rueger

Unit and occupation: Grocery worker with the base commissary

Time in the civil service: Three years

Time at Mountain Home Air Force Base: 15 years

Hometown: Clinton, Ill.

What service do you provide to Gunfighters? "I ensure that the products [customers] purchase are available and safe for consumption. There is no room for error in conducting food safety inspections when you know that it could cause serious illnesses."

Hobbies: Fishing, wood working, baseball and home improvement projects

Most memorable Air Force moment: The time he volunteered to paint, repair and replace trim around the office, bagger and warehouse areas, saving the commissary more than $3,000 versus having to contract out the work.

Interesting personal fact: "I am a diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan. I turned my daughter's old bedroom into a Cardinal memorabilia game room."

Why does Walter Rueger deserve to be a warrior of the week? "Mr. Rueger is our go-to guy. He is instrumental in the smooth operation of the commissary. His ability to organize and maintain the warehouse is critical to all areas of operation. When he is not busy in the warehouse, you can find him helping others or training them on different activities within the warehouse."
