Air Combat Command becomes the first major command in the Air Force to debut a new e-mail system to standardize electronic mail addresses for the military members.

Scheduled for implementation at places like Mountain Home July 9 through 12, E-Mail for Life gives every member a unique e-mail address that won't change during the career of an Airman, Department of Defense civilian or contractor using military computers.

The new e-mail address uses each person's legal first and last name followed by the "@us.af.mil" suffix.

"This program will enable e-mails to follow an Airman from base to base," said Senior Airman Andrew Weisenberger, 366th Communications Squadron's network control center system technician.

As the program takes affect here, Airmen don't need to take any action or change any settings on their existing e-mail account. This address automatically forwards mail to their existing account.

"Now instead of deleting an e-mail account because of a permanent change of station or name change, the account switches over to the domain name system usaf.mil during that time," Airman Weisenberger added.

Phase one of the program started earlier this year to help enhance e-mail access for Airmen stationed worldwide.
