Airman becomes command chief for a day Published Oct. 9, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Stephany Miller 366 Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- An Airman from the 366th Equipment Maintenance Squadron was the second lucky winner of the Command Chief Master Sergeant for a day contest and was command chief for a day here, Oct 5. Airman Charalene Watson spoke with first term Airmen and touched base with personnel throughout the Equipment Maintenance Squadron, all while dealing with the day-to-day responsibilities of the command chief. "It was good getting to go out of my career field and work directly with Chief Allen Niksich and see what he does as the wing's command chief." said Airman Watson. "I set up the CCM for a day program to give insight and a bigger picture view for our Airmen in the trenches," said Chief Niksich. Starting with the first quarter of 2007, the base's Focus 56 group began CCM for a day as a fundraiser. The group appoints one squadron to sell tickets, which aspiring Airmen buy in hopes of winning the privilege to become an honorary command chief. Staff Sgt. Kari Boyles, 366th Aeromedical Dental Squadron, organizes the events and works with the squadron contacts to collect and tally the tickets, which are 25 cents each or $1 for five. "The more tickets you have, the better chance your name will be drawn," said Sergeant Boyles. Each quarter, a different squadron offers its Airmen an opportunity to win the chance to see what it's like to be a command chief so they can gain a better appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of the wing's top enlisted person. "CCM for a day lets an enlisted person shadow the command chief while interacting with everyone from senior leaders to junior Airmen. This gives the Airman a better idea of how things are done in the wing," said Sergeant Boyles.
