Recent Gunfighter blood drive a success Published April 15, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Rodney D. Ivey 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- A blood drive ran by a team comprised of Army, Air Force and Navy medics from Ft. Lewis, Wash., was held on base April 1 and 2. The blood drive, held at the Community Center, collected 131 units of blood for use in military hospitals worldwide. "The Mountain Home Air Force Base hospital stands out among all medical facilities in the world when it comes to providing wounded military personnel with the blood they need for survival," said Jim Koseki, blood drive coordinator. The quarterly base blood drives are run by the Red Cross and provide a lifeline to military members and civilians in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and parts of Oregon. Over the course of the past year, Mountain Home AFB's Red Cross blood drives have facilitated the collection of more than 250 units of blood for those in need. "I want to thank the wing leadership, chief's group and first sergeants for their continued support with the base's blood drives," said Mr. Koseki. "If they were not getting the word out and allowing their Airmen the time off from work to donate, none of this would be possible." Another base blood drive is scheduled for June at the Community Center. For more information, call Mr. Koseki at 828-7837.
