Gunfighter computers upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007 Published April 23, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Rodney D. Ivey 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Through June, the 366th Communications Squadron will upgrade base computers to Microsoft Office 2007. Most of the options Gunfighters have grown accustomed to will still available, but may be located in a different place. Additionally, some new features are included in the upgrade. "We hope to make this transition to Microsoft Office 2007 as quick and painless as possible," said Capt. Kurt Weissgerber, 366th CS Information Systems Flight commander. The 366th CS has provided training modules that will be placed on your desktop after the upgrade. The computer system administrators and information management support teams have also had focused training and a compatibility package was pushed to all of the base computers which will provide a seamless transition between the old and new file formats. With the new upgrade, the following sections of Microsoft Office will be affected. Office Word 2007 includes new tools that help create more professional-looking letters, proposals and data sheets in less time and build documents more easily from frequently used content. Quick formatting capabilities help apply a new look and feel to documents, and the Live Preview capabilities give a quick look at changes made to the documents. Office Outlook 2007 includes a new category coloring feature to help locate, manage, prioritize and respond to e-mail messages more easily. Office Outlook 2007 also provides improved junk mail and anti-phishing technologies that help filter out undesirable items. Office Excel 2007 is a powerful tool to create and format spreadsheets and analyze and share information. With the Microsoft Office Fluent user interface, it's easier to create and use rich data visualization and professional-looking charts. Office PowerPoint 2007 enables users to quickly create high-impact, dynamic presentations while integrating review workflows and ways to easily share this information. From the Microsoft Office Fluent user interface to the new graphics and formatting capabilities, PowerPoint 2007 puts the control in users' hands to create great-looking presentations. "All base computer users will be upgraded by June, but individual users can request installation now if they choose," said Captain Weissgerber.
