Improved workout room offers parents more options Published Aug. 5, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Samantha S. Crane 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- On Aug. 4, the 366th Services Squadron Sports and Fitness Center opened its newly improved "parent supervised child play area" to offer parents more options when they workout with children. "Due to comments and customer inputs, we felt there was a need to increase the child play area," said Senior Airman Monique Brown, 366th SVS fitness supervisor. "Now there's more weight equipment for strength training along with more cardio machines in a bigger area for moms and dads to work out while children play." The expanded child play area is located across from the cardio room and next to the large group exercise room in the back of the gym. "This was a self help project in conjunction with the family member program flight and the fitness center," said Rick Holmes, 366th SVS fitness center director. "The parent supervised child area is beneficial to all of the base community by having a place where parents are able to keep fit while watching their children." Children up to age six must be in the parent work-out room under direct supervision at all times. Children six to 12 years old can use the basketball courts, racquetball courts and running track with a direct interactive adult supervision but are not allowed in the cardio, weight or large group exercise rooms. Children 13 to 15 years old may use the basketball courts, racquetball courts and running track when their parent is present in the facility and may use the cardio, weight and large group exercise rooms with direct interactive adult supervision. Children 16 years and older have unrestricted use of the fitness center. The fitness center is open from 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. For more information, call the fitness center at 828-2381.
