Dozens of children from Mountain Home Air Force Base took part in the Boys and Girls Clubs Day for Kids Sept. 19 at the base youth center.

The day is held to celebrate the "importance of establishing stronger relationships between adults and youth," according to the official BGC Day for Kids Web site, www.dayforkids.org.

The annual event is held the third Saturday of September each year but celebrated on base the Friday to make it easier for parents and children to attend, according to Lissa Hall, BGC coordinator.

"We have found that everyone clears out on weekends here," said Mrs. Hall. "If we have it on a Friday afternoon right after work, parents seem not to mind staying on base for a free event."

"We came for some good family fun," said Amanda Alvarado, mother of three.

Activities included face painting, inflatable slides and obstacle courses, basketball, a presentation by the base fire department including a fire truck and Sparky the fire dog, and discounted snack bar meals.

"My favorite was the slide," said Timothy Hall, son of Master Sgt. Joseph and Lissa Hall.
