Base housing office reminds residents to prepare for winter months

  • Published
With temperatures dropping, the base housing office offers reminders to residents regarding preparations for the colder months.

To keep heaters or air conditioners running at top efficiency, furnace filters need to be cleaned or replaced monthly. Filters are available at the base's self-help store.

During the winter season, all hoses, doublers and timers must be disconnected from outside faucets when not in use to prevent the water pipes from freezing or bursting. The housing maintenance office repairs dripping faucets. If damages are considered beyond normal wear and tear or are proven to be caused by negligence, occupants may be held responsible.

Lanterns equipped with thermostats with red or yellow warning lights will be placed in vacant unit windows for the winter months. When the temperature of the house drops below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, a warning light will be activated. The housing office asks Gunfighters to report any red or yellow lights seen in vacant units to the housing maintenance office immediately to help prevent the pipes from freezing and damaging the units. If occupants move into a unit with a warning light, it should be returned to housing maintenance.
