XP reminds Gunfighters about FPCON measures Published Nov. 5, 2008 By Master Sgt. Jeanne Hansen 366th Fighter Wing Plans and Programs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- With another Emergency Management Exercise coming up in the near future, familiarizing yourself with the Force Protection Condition measures will be important. Here is a quick reminder of them: FPCON NORMAL: This condition applies when a general global threat of possible terrorist activity exists and warrants a routine security posture. FPCON ALPHA: This condition applies when there is an increased general threat of possible terrorist activity against personnel or facilities, the nature and extent of which are unpredictable, and circumstances don't justify full implementation of FPCON BRAVO measures. However, it may be necessary to implement certain measures from higher FPCONs resulting from intelligence received or as a deterrent. The measures in this FPCON must be able to be maintained indefinitely. FPCON BRAVO: This condition applies when an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists. Sustaining BRAVO measures for a prolonged period may affect operational capability and relations with local authorities. FPCON CHARLIE: This condition applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely. Prolonged implementation of CHARLIE measures may create hardship and affect the activities of the unit and its personnel. FPCON DELTA: Applies in the immediate area where a terrorist attack has occurred or when intelligence has been received that terrorist action against a specific location or person is imminent. This FPCON is declared as a localized condition. FPCON DELTA measures are not intended to be sustained for an extended duration. Remember to pay attention to surroundings and all personnel. There are no "exercise" FPCONs, only changes in present FPCON measures based upon exercise inputs. Be diligent and stay focused on the situational awareness. If something or someone looks out of place, they probably are and should be reported immediately to one of the following agencies: · AFOSI at 828-2297 · 366th Security Forces Squadron at 828-2256 · Command Post at 828-5800 · 366th Fighter Wing Antiterrorism/Force Protection office at 828-4750 · Report up the chain of command Again, it's our responsibility to ensure force protection during our daily duties, exercises and/or real world incidents. Be prepared for the unexpected.
