It's time for the 366th Fighter Wing to start preparing for another inspection. Just in case you haven't heard the news, we are in the window for a unit compliance inspection, or UCI, in the fall of 2010.

At first glance, that seems a long way away; however, January 2009 is just around the corner and the wing must have 24 months of documentation to pass this inspection.

The 366th Fighter Wing Plans and Programs Office is here to help the wing get ready for another opportunity to show that the Gunfighter team is effective and proficient. We all know it, but for the inspection team, it must be proved with complete and accurate documentation.

Below are a few tips to get the wing on the right path for the upcoming unit compliance exercise, or UCE, we have scheduled Jan. 13 through 15:

Philosophy:
The goal of a UCI is to ensure compliance. Saying the office complies isn't sufficient, it must be proved. Self- inspection checklists with written documentation, past records, up-to-date products, etc. are a great start. The inspectors will look at depth of knowledge in the programs. Thus, everyone must know which instructions are applicable to their job and how they comply. Be prepared to explain in detail or even demonstrate how you ensure compliance.

Goal:
Demonstrate to the inspectors that you know and do your job well, while proving compliance with supporting products and documentation.

Priorities:
Preparation for a UCI can seem overwhelming, making it easy to get off track or lose focus on what is important. Having correct processes to accomplish your job is the most important part of a UCI. Being able to prove to the inspectors that your processes are compliant is a close second. Thus the preparation priorities should be:
1. Processes - ensure you are doing the job correctly
2. Products - be able to prove you are doing the job correctly
3. Self-inspection checklist/database - help ensure and facilitate proof of compliance

Again, the key for a successful inspection is to be able to prove we do our job and we comply with governing instructions. As with the ORI, the Gunfighter team will once again prove to the Air Force we lead the way. Now is the time to lay the foundation so we will be ready to dazzle the Air Combat Command Inspector General UCI team when they arrive.
