Gunfighter Tax Center opens for business Published Jan. 27, 2009 By Neal Kelly 366th Fighter Wing Legal Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Don't want to pay to have your taxes done? The Gunfighter Tax Center will do them for free. Located across the parking lot from Wells Fargo Bank and run by local military and civilian personnel, the Tax Center offers free tax services to military members, spouses, federal civil servants and retirees. Trained by the Internal Revenue Service, these volunteers are equipped to handle tax needs. And unlike popular on-line tax services only offering Federal Income Tax assistance, the Tax Center will do state income tax returns as well. If you can't make it to the Tax Center, no worries, most squadrons have at least one trained volunteer income tax advisor, or VITA, ready to prepare returns. Look for flyers and signs posted within your squadron or call the Tax Center to get a list of VITA representatives within each squadron. The Tax Center opened Jan. 20 and offers appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and walk-ins on Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is closed Wednesdays. To make an appointment, call 828-4997.
