Gunfighters prepare for upcoming ORE Published March 25, 2009 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- As the 366th Fighter Wing prepares for the upcoming Phase II operational readiness exercise, which runs from April 6 to 10, officials with the wing's plans and programs office passed along tips to help Gunfighters succeed. Mandatory briefings regarding the exercise begin at 6:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. March 30 and again at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. March 31 at the base theater. An aircrew-only brief starts at 3 p.m. April 3. The wing uses OREs to gauge its ability to meet wartime taskings at a deployed location. The exercise grades the wing's initial response, readiness, combat operations, ability to survive and operate, self aid and buddy care and mission support. When the exercise begins, Gunfighters will simulate they have been deployed to Base X for 30 days with hostilities for three days. Players are reminded to prepare for the exercise by reviewing their Airman's Manual, reading the player's handbook, making a food and hydration plan, checking training gear, learning shift schedules, and reviewing the exercise intranet site at https://intranet.mountainhome.af.mil/xp/asp/default.htm. Airmen must also know what sectors they work in during the exercise and any sectors they may need to transit to conduct Phase II operations. The wing will use April 6 as a transition day to transform the "play area" into its wartime mode with the Phase II starting later that evening. Flying operations start April 7 and will continue through April 9. Exercise planners will send out reminders to ensure all players process through the base theater before entering their respective play areas. This transition area allows people to don their protective gear and familiarize themselves with current combat conditions. Beginning April 6 at 6 p.m., all exercise players must park in designated player parking areas near the base theater, Holt Park or the Gunfighter Club. Personal vehicles are not permitted in the 366th Communications Squadron parking lot next to the base theater since this area remains reserved for the exercise shuttles. Chapel and child development center parking lots are also off limits to players vehicles. Authorized non-players may park in designated areas within the play area or ride the shuttles to and from their work centers.
