Crane 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The intramurals all-star team defeated the over 30 all-star team 61 to 43 during the All Star Basketball Extravaganza at the Gunfighter Fitness Center March 20. Before the ceremonial tip off by Col. Jeffrey Maxwell, 366th Mission Support Group commander, base honor guard members presented the colors and Airman Shane Adkins, 366th Services Squadron fitness center staff, sang the national anthem. Throughout the first quarter, the two teams battled neck and neck, but the younger crowd secured the lead 20-18 with Patrick McIntyre leading in points. Before beginning the second quarter, the 366th SVS awarded one lucky audience member a two-hour underground party at the community center in one of many audience giveaways. The second quarter was much slower with the older generation scoring only three points and committing six fouls and the intramurals team scoring six points -- four from foul shots -- and getting in five of their own fouls. The first half ended with the intramurals leading 26 to 21. During the half-time show, five spectators received tickets to the Gunfighter Club's Monte Carlo night, one spectator won a whitewater rafting trip and two audience members became the proud owners of brand new I-pods given away by USAA. Maj. James Beaty, 366th SVS commander, presented trophies to the 366th Security Forces Squadron for their victory in the intramurals season and the 366th Force Support Squadron in the over 30 season. Vincent Brooks was named the over 30 most valuable player while Mark Fox was MVP for the intramural team. "I was very proud of our FSS team for winning the base championship in the over 30 league," said Blaine Miller, over 30 FSS and all-star team member. "This was the first year the teams were so even, and up until we played every game, nobody had any idea who was going to come out on top." James Roddin, intramurals team, went on to win the half-time agility competition while McIntyre took the three-point shoot-out title. The 366th Logistics Readiness Squadron audience members won a free bowling party by proving they could be the most obnoxious when called upon, and the game resumed. The over 30 team started off the second half strong, scoring five points in the first minute of playing time and tying the score 26 to 26. The two teams fought for the lead keeping within only a few points of each other, but the younger folks once again pulled ahead, ending the third quarter 45 to 38. Before the game could conclude, the 366th SVS staff randomly selected three more audience members to receive prizes including a gift certificate to the Arts and Crafts Center, a two-hour bowling party and a wine tasting trip for two. "Fan participation was great," said Rick Holmes, 366th SVS fitness center director. "Our job is to give customers a well-rounded program and make sure they have a good time, and the comments we received after the event were very positive." The last quarter served to increase the youngsters with the intramural team scoring 16 points and the over 30 team only scoring five, putting the final score at 61 to 43. "I thought we played very well against the young guys," said Miller. "We were much more patient and disciplined with our style of play, however, we were just plain out-athleted as the game went on. Those guys really crashed the glass hard" McIntyre, with a total of 17 points, was named all-star MVP. "The team did excellent," said Robert Thomas, intramurals team. "The players were from different squadrons and had not played together before. They were able to come together and get the win."
