Safety Day to educate Gunfighters Published May 5, 2009 By Senior Airman Samantha S. Crane 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- On May 15, the 366th Fighter Wing safety office will hold a "Safety Day" from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Holt Park to prepare Gunfighters for the "101 Critical Days of Summer," which begins May 25. "This isn't going to be your typical safety day at Mountain Home," said Matt Chandler, 366th Fighter Wing ground safety. "It's going to be very interactive; basically just a good time for people to come out and learn something new." During last year's 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign, the Air Force had 17 reported fatalities with causes including motorcycle, sports and recreation mishaps. "These mishaps can be prevented," said Mr. Chandler. "It's really important that the Gunfighter community is educated enough to keep themselves safe." The day's events include a base fire department extraction demonstration, a presentation from the Idaho Fish and Games citizens against poaching and a beer goggles golf cart challenge. "We have safety days to prevent mishaps through awareness," said Staff Sgt. Alex Sotak, 366th FW ground safety. Topics addressed throughout the day include outdoor recreation, vehicle, motorcycle, public and fire safety. Demonstrations will be presented throughout the entire day with more than two dozen vendors and safety organizations participating along with Idaho State Parks and Recreations, Les Schwab, Mountain Home ATV club, Idaho State Police and Elmore County Search and Rescue.
