Base speed limits change

In an effort to simplify traffic rules on base, the 366th Fighter Wing commander, directed that all base speed limits be either 15 or 30 mph, effective immediately.

"I want base speed limits to be simple, safe and easy to follow," said Col. John Bird.

"After careful review in the Traffic Safety Committee, we applied 15 mph speed zones to residential streets, gates and school zones when children are present," said Dennis Scott, 366th Mission Support Group deputy commander and chair of the base Traffic Safety Committee. "All other streets are 30 mph."

The majority of base speed limits will not change, but a few slated to change include Eagle, Falcon and Mellon streets, which will be increased from 20 to 30 mph.

"We're in the process of changing base signs now, and all signs should be up within a month," said Maj. Chris Buzo, 366th Civil Engineer Squadron commander.

An increased emphasis will also be placed on school zones through additional lighted signs.

"When the yellow warning lights are flashing, you will know that the speed limit is 15 mph," said Major Buzo.
