Four Gunfighters selected as command chief master sergeant candidates Published Aug. 25, 2009 By 2nd Lt. Neil Samson 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Four Gunfighters have been selected for the command chief master sergeant candidates list for the 2009 calendar year. These candidates were out of the 200 selected from a field of 740 chief master sergeants to fill 80 expected requirements in the next year. The candidates were: Chief Master Sgt. Tim Herrick, 366th Force Support Squadron Chief Master Sgt. Marty Anderson, 366th Component Maintenance Squadron Chief Master Sgt. James Kowalewski, 366th Maintenance Group Chief Master Sgt. William Harner, 366th Operations Group Prior to 2009, only volunteers were considered for promotion to command chief master sergeant. This year, "The revised process allows senior raters to recommend their best qualified for command chief master sergeant duty regardless of their volunteer status," said Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton III, the deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel. After selection, the candidates will have the opportunity to attend command chief master sergeant orientation. There, they will receive expectations briefings as well as professional enhancement. Upon completion, these new command chief master sergeants will serve for a year in that position. In the coming months, wing commanders will have the chance to select who they want to serve as their command chief master sergeant from this list.
