Staff Sgt. William Reif

Unit and duty title:
366th Fighter Wing equal opportunity advisor

Time in Air Force: 11 years and 10 months

Hometown: Salem, S.D.

What service does Sergeant Reif provide to the Gunfighters? Sergeant Reif provides supervisors the tools to improve the human relations climate in their units. He also initiates unit climate assessments, teaches human relations education classes, conducts complaint clarifications and mediates and facilitates complaints for both military and civilians on base.

Most memorable Air Force moment. "Going to school at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute. It changed my perspective on the military itself. I got to see how other branches of the service worked and how the Air Force has more freedom; we give more responsibility to younger Airmen and lower ranks."

Interesting personal fact: "I'm a huge fan of John Wayne."

Why does Sergeant Reif deserve to be a warrior of the week? "Sergeant Reif essentially ran the EO office for over a year by himself. He has processed complaints with a high resolution rate based on his excellent mediation and facilitation skills. He's really passionate about educating our personnel on the importance of communication and equal opportunity. His hard work enables individuals the ability to work in an environment that is free from harassment and discrimination."
- Tech. Sgt. Arlene Gentry, 366th FW director of equal opportunity

Most memorable Air Force moment. "I've lived in Germany, been to the top of the Eiffel Tower, walked through the Louvre and Notre Dame, seen the space shuttle up close, walked on glaciers and seen the Northern Lights so close that is seemed like you could reach out and touch them. I've attended speeches given by the president and vice president, met the chief master sergeant of the Air Force and deputy judge advocate general. Two of the most memorable moments were helping commemorate my husband's Air Force career at his retirement ceremony and my son's graduation from the Fire Training Academy at Goodfellow AFB, Texas."

Interesting personal fact: "I'm only known as 'Betty' at work. If you asked anyone in my family about Betty, they wouldn't know who you were talking about."

Why does Mrs. Spealman deserve to be a warrior of the week? "Mrs. Spealman is a true champion for customer service here in the legal office. She concurrently manages multiple tasks throughout the day while providing top-notch customer service to all who seek our services. Her keen ability to manage the legal assistance calendar, answer telephone calls, draft and notarize powers of attorney and suspense inbound documents makes her a great fit for 'warrior' of the week."
