Wing Safety Day set for May 24 Published May 14, 2010 By TSgt Maxwell B. Tinsley 366th Fighter Wing Safety Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- During the summer months there is an alarming number preventable mishaps occurring. There are many factors that contribute to accidents that tragically take the lives of some of our Airmen. It is everyone's responsibility to educate, inform and help minimize the amount of preventable mishaps individuals are involved in. We all play a significant role in the safety and well being of our force and protecting the Air Force's most valuable assets. The 366th Fighter Wing Safety office will host the annual Wing Safety Day May 24. Wing leadership and the safety office are dedicating an entire duty day to stress the importance of safety. Safety Day will play host to a number of our civilian safety counter parts to assist with the education of summer safety. Idaho Fish and Game, Mountain Home Police, Idaho State Police and T & V Marine are a few of the agencies who will be represented during Safety Day. There are mandatory briefings that will be held at the base theater that will include comments from wing leadership, safety and mishap prevention information and suicide awareness. These briefings are mandatory for anyone 26 years of age and under. Safety Kids of Treasure Valley will be at Holt Park to assist Family Advocacy with proper installation of Child Safety Restraints in vehicles between 8am and 3pm Bring your car by to have check by trained professionals. The importance of this day can't be stressed enough. We all have an obligation to the Air Force, our co-workers and our families who we take all the necessary measures to ensure our safety during the summer months. Below is a tentative schedule of events for the 366th Fighter Wing Annual Safety Day. 1. Theater Briefs: The 366 FW senior leadership and respective GP/CCs will provide opening comments followed by the 366 FW Safety office and MDG briefers who will present safety and suicide briefs at the base theater. These briefs are mandatory for all military personnel 26 and under. The briefing schedule is as follows: 7:30 - 8:15am 10:30 - 11:15am 11:30am - 12:15pm 1:30 - 2:15pm 2:30 - 3:15pm 2. Holt Park Safety Fair: The wing safety offices will sponsor a safety fair from 8am - 3pm at Holt Park. The 366 FW/CC has directed all military personnel to attend (civilians highly encouraged). The event will include more than 24 local safety vendors. Demonstrations will take place throughout the day to include "Jaws of Life" vehicle extractions, child car seat checks, mock sobriety tests, golf cart driving with DUI goggles, Parks and Recreation/Fish and Game displays and many more. In addition, the Wing Awards Council will be selling burgers and hot dogs during lunch from 11am - 1pm. 3. Unit Events: Throughout the day, units will conduct briefings and training events focused on both unit mission-specific and general summer safety. Briefers will be reminding their personnel that this event marks the start of the critical days of summer, a time when the 366th Fighter Wing has historically suffered many losses. It is important to ensure all Gunfighters have the tools and knowledge to execute their mission safely while on duty and the judgment required to return safely from every summer event.
