Force Support Squadron: What would we do without them?

In the military everyone has a specific Air Force Specialty Code, or job, that they are assigned either before entering basic training or at the end of training.

If asked, people will tell you that their AFSC is the best and nothing else is better. However, throughout the Air Force no one job is more important than the other.

"No matter what you do for the military, doesn't matter if you're Medical Technician or Force Support Squadron, we all help support the mission," said Airman 1st Class Nickolas Williams. "Every person has something that they can offer to the mission that another person might not be able to."

For anyone that thinks the FSS isn't that important just look at it this way: if the FSS wasn't here who would serve your food? Who would make sure that the Fitness Center was in tip top shape? Who would run the sports programs that we enjoy so much?

On September 1 the Force Support Squadron was able to start operating the Wagon Wheel Dining Facility. The DFAC staff is happy and more than willing to accommodate your hungry needs. They will also make sure that the dining facility is clean and ready for us to enjoy. On a daily basis the FSS staff is willing to provide Airmen with four meals going from ranging in times from 5:30a.m. until 1a.m.

At the Fitness Center many of us enjoy the use of the indoor basketball courts and the track outside. However, if it wasn't for the great FSS staff we wouldn't have the clean facilities to utilize all the equipment that we have now.

"FSS is a fun place to work," Airman Kadra Miller said. "There is always something new that happens. Plus, we get to help the whole force in their everyday needs."

Throughout the base people can see the FSS at work. At the paintball course the FSS is there to hand out the equipment for Airmen to use. At the outdoor recreation building the FSS staff is more than willing to show what there is to do in the great state of Idaho. Staff can guide Airmen to the great hiking or rafting spots around the base. They will even point hunters in the direction of some good game.

So the next time you plan a trip, go to the DFAC, or use the gym, make sure to thank the Airmen who are there providing you with all your necessities.
