Spring 2011 CCAF Graduation Published May 6, 2011 By Barbara Wilson 366th Fighter Wing Base Training and Education Services MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- A celebration to honor the Spring 2011 Community College of the Air Force will take place at the Gunfighter Club May 20 at 10 a.m. This semiannual graduation ceremony will recognize the dedication and initiative of eighty-one Airmen who juggled their professional military responsibilities and personal lives/families, with academic education to complete an Associates of Applied Science degree. These Airmen have successfully taken on educational commitments and meet the educational requirements for these regionally accredited degrees. The CCAF concept evolved in the early 1970s as a means of gaining recognition for Air Force training. Visionaries recognized the need to enhance the skills of noncommissioned officers as technicians, leaders and citizens, and increase their development as managers of Air Force resources. The Community College of the Air Force was established April 1, 1972, at Randolph AFB, Texas, and is regionally accredited through Air University by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
