HAILEY, Idaho – Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Gail Halvorsen takes a moment prior to the Memorial Day service at the Hailey Cemetery to share a bit about the Berlin Airlift and view historical photos. Colonel Halvorsen was a command pilot during the Berlin Airlift, and is better known as the “Candy Bomber” for air dropping candy to East German children. More than 400 people, to include past and present military personnel, attended the 9th Annual Hailey Memorial Day ceremony, which was highlighted by a fly over of two A-10 Warthogs from the 124th Idaho Air National Guard.
