Buses no longer run through base housing Published Aug. 16, 2011 By 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs 366th Fighter Wing MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Before children go back to school, be advised of a few changes pertaining to bus stops, bus routes and pedestrians crossing the roads. First, please be aware of the school's flashing lights on Gunfighter and Eagle Avenues for pedestrian crossing. Remember it's our future Gunfighter leaders who are heading to school and we all need to have the utmost safety in mind. Also drivers are asked to use caution when traveling on Gunfighter Ave. as the traffic signals are now push button activated by pedestrians. The approximate times for high pedestrian traffic are from 6:30-7:30 a.m. and 3:15-3:45 p.m. Finally, there has been a major change to bussing for all children who attend school off and on base. According to the Mountain Home School District, "due to budget cuts and efforts to streamline services, on-base primary school transportation was discontinued for school year 2011-2012." Idaho Code does not require transportation to and from school for children who live within 1.5 miles of the school. The district determined that no child on base lives further than 1.5 miles from the Primary School. The representative stated this change is consistent with other changes to bus routes for the entire district this year. This means children who attend school in the Mountain Home School District will need to go to the Mountain Home Primary School and catch a bus to go into Mountain Home for school. The buses will depart the primary school at 7:10 a.m. each school day. All Mountain Home Primary School children will no longer be picked up within base housing. Parents will have to plan according to get their children to school. This information was given out during school registration. Tonight is the monthly school board meeting at the MHSD main office (470 N. 3rd street) starting at 7:30 p.m. One of the topics will be the new school bus routes for the Mountain Home School District. This meeting is a great opportunity to voice your concerns and questions regarding MHSD activities.
